The Grange is close to the Botanical Gardens, which are situated near the Art Centre and Christchurch Museum. Enjoy an afternoon picnic in the gardens amongst the sweeping trees, beautiful flowers, rock, water and rose gardens.
The Avon River runs through much of the city centre and its surrounding suburbs. Go punting on the river, the perfect experience if it is relaxation you are after. Each punt has its own boatperson who will take you through various parts of the city, including beautiful parks, the Mona Vale Homestead and the Antigua Boat Sheds.
The Grange overlooks the park and is situated on the historical Tourist Tram route. The Tram is certainly worth the ride while you are staying in Christchurch. The Tram follows a 2.5 kilometre loop around the city. It goes past Cathedral Square, The Arts Centre, Victoria Square, and New Regent Street – to name but a few.
The focal point of the arts and crafts in Christchurch, the Arts Centre features a number of art galleries, craft shops and theatres. It is definitely worth a visit. The Arts Centre boasts a wonderful selection of cafés, restaurants and bars catering to all appetites and tastebuds. For those with a sweet tooth, a trip to the Fudge Cottage should definitely be on the cards! The Arts Centre also has weekend markets and there is an ethnic food fair which is certainly worth checking out.
As well as the number of attractions set within close proximity to The Grange, there are a variety of other attractions, set outside of the city centre, which are also worth doing. Make a trip to the Casino, offering twenty four hour gaming entertainment. Take a ride in the Christchurch Gondola, offering stunning panoramic views of the city, visit Orana Park and the Antarctic Centre. Make a day trip to one of a number of stunning Canterbury beaches. Clearwater is a must for golf enthusiasts, as is catching a rugby game at AMI Stadium during the season. The atmosphere is unbeatable!
